Employment

We are delighted that you are interested in applying for a position at Oakcrest. Fill out the online application completely and accurately by the deadlines listed at the bottom of this page. Not following instructions, missing the application deadlines, or filling out forms incorrectly may result in disqualification.

  1. Kitchen or Staff Application (including staff schedule): To be filled out by the applicant and signed.
  2. One-page essay (see instructions below) included in the online application.
  3. Bishop’s Reference Form: The top section is to be filled out by the applicant, then given to their Bishop for him to fill out and mail in separately or email to oakcrestemployment@gmail.com.
  4. Personal Reference Form: The top section is to be filled out by the applicant then given to a previous employer, or an individual who has worked with the applicant in a leadership position, to fill out and mail in separately or email to oakcrestemployment@gmail.com. (Reference letters filled out by boyfriends, relatives, or roommates will not be accepted.)

Essay Instructions:

Note: One Essay is adequate when applying for multiple positions

Directorship Essay:  (those applying for director, assistant director, or head cook).  Please write a 1 page essay and address the following questions:

1. What are the 3 most important attributes or skills you would bring to the Oakcrest leadership?
2. What have been your most significant leadership experiences? What did you learn from them?
3. What challenges have you faced when working with others and how have you overcome them?
4. What impact do you think an LDS girls camp should have on its campers?

Staff Essay (those applying for counselor or specialists positions).  Please write a brief, 1 page essay.  Include the following:

1. Any specialized training or experience in camping or other fields which might have a bearing on this application.

2.  What impact do you think an LDS girls camp can and should have on its campers?

3.  Your reasons for wanting to spend a summer at Oakcrest Camp.

4.  The contributions you feel that you would personally be able to make to the camp.

OR

Kitchen Application Essay (those applying for assistant cook or kitchen duty specialist only).  Please write a brief 1 page essay.  Include the following:

1.  What is your cooking experience?

2. Tell how you deal with stress.

3.  Share how you would be an asset in keeping a positive attitude, helping those around you, and working as a good team member and keeping your workspace clean.

4. Tell us about a time when you when you had to work hard to accomplish a task or goal.


Employee Requirements

We respectfully ask that you check your summer calendar carefully and speak with your parents about your plan to work at Oakcrest.  All training meetings are mandatory as is daily attendance at camp for all 11 weeks.  This means sacrificing family vacation time and other events you may want to attend.  Exceptions are made only for sibling weddings/missions.  We are sorry, but if you cannot make this commitment to Oakcrest, we cannot consider your application.

All Employees Must:

  • Be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Be worthy to hold a temple recommend when applying for a job at Oakcrest and continue to hold a temple recommend throughout the summer.
  • Be a High School graduate. (Or in High School if applying for Kitchen Duty Specialist)
  • Be willing to work hard and be self-motivated.
  • Possess good organizational skills.
  • Be in good health.
  • Be able to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • Be able to attend the mandatory training meetings prior to camp (see Staff Schedule on application).
  • Be able to attend the mandatory “Pre-Camp Week” (see Staff Schedule on application).
  • Make a commitment for the entire summer to work at Oakcrest.
  • Be able to work and live at Oakcrest Monday morning through Friday afternoon.
  • Have a place to stay on the weekends within a reasonable travel distance from the Salt Lake Valley.
  • Have transportation to and from camp (near Kamas, Utah) or to various car pool meeting spots in the Salt Lake Valley.
  • All employees must comply with the guidelines given in the “Employee Handbook”.
  • Pass a background check.

Employee Positions

Director:

  • Oakcrest experience required.
  • Must have at least two years of post-high school work, college, or mission experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Assistant Director:

  • Oakcrest experience preferred.
  • Must have at least one year of post-high school work experience or college.
  • Must be at least 20 years old.

Head Cook:

  • Must have at least one year of post-high school work experience or college.
  • Oakcrest kitchen experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 19 years old.

Craft Specialist/Counselor:

  • Must have at least one year of post-high school work experience or college.
  • Craft experience preferred.
  • Must be creative and patient.
  • Must be able to follow directions and must be able to clearly give directions.
  • This is a dual-role position.  Some weeks you will work as a craft specialist and other weeks you will work as a counselor.

First Aid Specialist/Counselor:

  • Must have at least one year of post-high school work experience or college.
  • Must have CPR training.
  • First Aid/Nursing experience preferred.
  • This is a dual-role position.  Some weeks you will work as a First Aid specialist and other weeks you will work as a counselor.

Range Master:

  • Must have at least one year of post-high school work experience or college.
  • Some gun experience preferred or willing to learn about gun safety.
  • Must be firm in giving directions and following all gun safety protocol.
  • Must be in good physical condition to carry guns and ammunition to the range and back each day.
  • Must be self-motivated to collect and repair equipment as needed including arrows, targets, and balls, etc.
  • This is a dual-role position.  Some weeks you will work as a Range Master, other weeks you will work as a counselor.

  • Must have a love of young women and an understanding of the LDS Church Young Women’s program.
  • Must be able to follow directions and must be able to give directions.

Note: These dates are tentative and are subject to change.

After your completed application is reviewed, you may be contacted for an interview.  Members of the Oakcrest Directorship and Oakcrest Women’s Committee conduct the interviews.  They will spend some time getting to know you and asking questions about your application and essay.  Below are some comments from former staff members about their interview:
